Discover Australia is a magnificent collector coin program from the historic Perth Mint. Scheduled for release between 2006 and 2008, the program comprises pure gold, silver and platinum proof coins depicting Australia's amazing fauna, landmarks and flora.
The coin's reverse depicts a Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus ). Living in fresh water lakes and streams in eastern Australia, this extraordinary-looking creature possesses a beaver-like coat, webbed feet, a broad tail and an amazingly electro-sensitive bill, which is used to forage for prey, including insects, amphibians and small fish. The year-date and The Perth Mint's traditional ‘P’ mintmark also appear in the design.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 , the coins depict Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
Uniquely Australian Packaging
Each coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian jarrah timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australia's distinctive logo.
Numbered Certificate of Authenticity
