The Perth Mint has produced the 2010 Tiger coin to celebrate of the Year of the Tiger. Tiger Eye gemstone has always shared the celebration of the Year of the Tiger, as its features such as its beauty, unique colour and pattern matches that of a tiger eye.
Tiger eye gemstone reflects a narrow band of light that changes positions as the gem is moved back and forth. The effect is called chatoyant, it is having a changeable lustre.
It gets its name from the French phrase for cat’s eye’ as it resembles a feline slitted pupil. It has rich yellow and golden brown stripes, with a fine golden lustre when polished.
Tiger eye is used to help focus the mind and also offers protection during travels.
Tiger Eye is mostly mined in South Africa.
Tiger’s eye is a remarkable rock such as the tiger, as it has received its name due to their similarities.
