This One Ounce Molon Labe Type III Silver Rounds contain 1 troy ounce of 0.999 pure silver.
They're struck by Intaglio Mint, a highly respected private mint based in Denver, CO. The rounds are named after the phrase that articulated the Spartan intention of defying their invaders, the Persians. The Spartans will always be remembered for their legendary last stand by fierce warriors -- just 300 skilled fighters who stopped an army of 10,000 in their tracks for seven days.
The 1 oz Molon Labe Type III Silver Round was inspired by the famous battle of Thermopylae and hence, features a stunning depiction of a Spartan soldier in combat. The Greek phrase 'Molon Labe' translates to 'Come and Take it' in English. At the Battle of Thermopylae, the Spartans, led by their King Leonidas, fought against the Persian Empire ruled by Emperor Xerxes.
The obverse of these silver rounds features a Spartan soldier in full uniform with a full helmet and beautifully designed armor. The soldier is on one knee shielding himself from arrows raining down from the sky while clutching a spear in his right hand. The ground around him is covered with the bodies of his enemies. The words “MOLON LABE” are minted towards the top of the round in Greek.
On the other hand, the reverse sides feature the Intaglio Mint logo -- a Romanesque pillar in the shape of "I" on a textured background with the purity and weight of the coin imprinted around the edges
