In traditional Chinese culture, the serpent-like dragon is revered as a divine creature and potent symbol of power, wealth, and good fortune. Chinese art often depicts a pair of dragons chasing or fighting over a pearl, a symbol of wisdom and immortality. The coin portrays two dragons on a background of clouds, representing their heavenly realm. The mythical creatures surround a precision carved mother of pearl centrepiece featuring a three-dimensional sterling silver representation of the Chinese character for ‘dragon’. As well as the inscriptions ‘YEAR OF THE DRAGON’, the reverse includes a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. Also included is the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date.
H.M. King Charles III effigy
The coin bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.
