The nugget was discovered near the Victorian goldfields town of Moliagul by John Deason on 5 February 1869.
The coin includes a representation of Stuart Devlin’s depiction of the Welcome Stranger gold nugget as it appeared in The Perth Mint’s 1986 Australian Nugget 1oz gold coin with the inscription ‘WELCOME STRANGER 1869’ and ‘AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the 2020 year-date, and the coin’s weight and fineness are also included in the reverse design.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule. Limited mintage of just 25,000 bullion coins worldwide with only 1500 coins released in Australia!
