Two ounce Silver Round .
The Spartans will always be remembered for their bravery and defiance. These 2 oz Molon Labe Type IV Silver Rounds are named after the phrase that articulated the Spartan intention of defying their invaders, the Persians. The Greek phrase 'Molon Labe' translates to 'Come and Take it' in English. King Leonidas is said to have yelled this as the Persian army approached.
Once King Leonidas learned of the immense numbers of the Persian force, he returned a mass of his army to a narrow canyon and with just 300 Spartans and held the pass for nearly 7 days against 10,000 Persians. Although the Spartans ultimately succumbed to the Persians, they became legends in the history of Greece for their determination to defeat the invading Persians.
Each of these silver rounds contain 2 troy ounces of 0.999 pure silver and is minted by Intaglio Mint.
The obverse of these Molon Labe Rounds will feature Persian soldiers riding elephants through a battlefield covered in bodies of fallen soldiers. In the center of the design is a Spartan defiantly standing in front of a charging elephant with his spear and shield raised. At the bottom of the round are the words “MOLON LABE” in Greek lettering.
The reverse of these silver rounds displays Intaglio Mint's logo, which is a Romanesque pillar surrounded by a sunburst design. The weight and purity of the silver in this round are also minted on this side.
